Can felons visit inmates in California? ›

Visitors must present a copy of this form to the visiting deputy when coming to visit. No visits shall be granted to convicted felons who do not have proof of prior approval.

All visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by calling (951) 696-3470 from 9am to 5pm. Each unit within the Jail has its own visiting hours, so you should review the Jail's visiting hours website before scheduling a visit.

Visitors' clothing must not refer to gang affiliation, display sexual or lewd comments or pictures, or have the potential for being offensive to others. Clothing must cover the upper torso and lower/mid body parts. Skirts must be at least to mid-thigh length.

That's no longer the case: Under Senate Bill 731, which went into effect in mid-2023, Californians with most kinds of felony convictions, including violent crimes, can ask for their records to be cleared. Sex offenses are the primary exception.

The inmate shall send family members and friends an application (CDCR Form 106) to visit. All adult visitors must complete the application and return it to DMCCF by mail. The Visiting staff must approve the application before the family member and/or friend may visit. This should take approximately 30 working days.

Each California prison has facilities for “family visits” (sometimes called “conjugal” visits) with “immediate family members.” These visits allow a person in prison to be with their family for approximately 30 to 40 hours in a private space, usually a small trailer on the prison grounds.

VISITING RULES. Visitors are required to show valid photo identification prior to a visit. Only government issued ID's are accepted (State Driver's License or Identification Card, Passport, Consular Card, etc.)

Each visit will last a minimum of 30 minutes. Two adults and two minors will be permitted to visit any one inmate. Children must be under adult supervision at all times. Upon prior request of the Watch Commander, unaccompanied minor children may visit any relative in custody.
